Many people do far less research before buying the kind of Nokia Mobile that best suits them. In many case, consumers are duped by retailers who try to market phones which tend to give them the best commission. I have made this mistake few times of buying a mobile impulsively and suffered at the end. Yes, I still repent the days of getting an N85 without actually researching. So I would like to share some tips on how to buy the best Nokia that suits you. Of course, I have to say that I own N82, E71 and 5800 XpressMusic, the best devices in each of Nokia’s flagship categories. After all, I did learn from my mistakes and have become a smarter buyer now.
1) Don’t always go based on reviews on any website. Reviews are only FYIs to know what others feel about a device. Most of the reviews may be biased, inadequate and not authentic. It’s good to get other’s opinion, but not blindly accept them. ALERT: Don’t believe the ratings that you see in sites like gsmarena.com, they are not factual, and it’s random.
2) The specifications posted on sites likephonearena.com, gsmarena.com etc may not be accurate all times. The best source for getting the correct specification is from the horse’s mouth itself. Yes, you heard it right. Nokia maintains a specification site for all its devices. These sites list out all the A-Z spec details of a Nokia phone.
3) Not sure on the kind of device you need? That’s perfectly alright! You can use Nokia’s Advance Device Search to figure out which mobile best suits your needs. It’s the most up to date and reliable device search directly from Nokia’s database yet.
4) Not sure where to buy it from? I recommend buying mobile phones online. Seriously! I’m not kidding. But before that, you have to do some homework. You should visit your local electronics store like best buy, circuit city, Nokia Care etc. and …
a. Get the feel of the device. See if the build of the phone is sturdy and feels good in your hand. Perfect example of sturdy build is E71 and 5800.
b. Do quick sanity checks like taking pictures to check camera quality, review the browser, make trail calls, play songs though loudspeaker etc.
c. Record all the sanity checks on a piece paper. If required, also rate the features verified on a scale of 1 – 10, so that it’ll be easy for you to recollect when ordering online.
Now that you have done the basic homework, why not get it directly from the showroom? Wait, you can save a good 50 to 75 dollars or more if you buy online. So think again, it all boils down to value for the money you get it. The lesser you spend, better the ROI. Ok, now which site to buy from? There is amazon.com, newegg.com, buy.com etc. How do I know which site offers the best deal? Search for the device @ http://www.pricegrabber.com/ or http://www.froogle.com/. These will list out the best deals available. Before judging which site to buy from, check the authenticity of the seller and the review from buyers. If not you can always resort to amazon.com which offers really competitive price and free shipping.
There you go, hope this article saved you some money and time to select the best Nokia mobile of your choice. Happy buying!!!
Also, I’m looking forward to the upcoming Nokia world event at Stuttgart, September 2-3, 2009. Hoping that Nokia will announce several new devices like “N97 mini”, X/C series and Nokia Netbooks. If you are thinking of buying any new Nokia Mobile now, I’d recommend deferring that decision till you know what’s coming. Needless to say, prices of existing devices might also drop based on the upcoming devices.
